Executive Summary

In 2004, The One Hundred Black Men and community leaders established EAF in response to an alarming report that 72% of NY State’s prison population originated from seven NYC neighborhoods, where the average HS-graduation rate was 32%. This revelation shed light on the connection between incarceration rates and education system deficiencies. EAF collaborated with NYC Dept of Educuation to launch single-gender public schools in five of those under-resourced neighborhoods, resulting in 89% graduation and on average 98% college acceptance for 250+ young men of color (YMOC) annually. In 2016, EAF expanded its impact by creating Eagle Institute (EI), dedicated to sharing its successful practices supporting and empowering YMOC. EI provides comprehensive training, professional development, coaching, and capacity-building services to cultivate positive cultural environments and implement interventions that promote academic achievement, career pathways, and social-emotional well-being. To date, EI has trained 1,500+ educators nationwide, positively impacting the lives of 15,000+ young men. EI's reach extends beyond schools to nonprofits, corporations, and others committed to advancing the prospects of YMOC. EAF is also a convenor of public and private entities to leverage collective strategies to analyze and develop solutions for issues facing our communities. EAF has had two Black male CEOs, who grew up in disinvested communities and are raising boys themselves. EAF’s team comprises 84% individuals identifying as POC including 8 Alumni Ambassadors who serve as credible messengers, drawing from their own community experiences to amplify the voices of youth in EAF's work.  EAF is a beacon and a blueprint.
