Executive Summary

Founded by immigrant parents in 1998, the mission of Edu-Futuro is to empower underserved youth and adults through mentorship, education, leadership development, parent engagement, and workforce development. We work to break the cycle of poverty by focusing on education as a critical catalyst for positive change in immigrant households. As one of the largest Latino-led nonprofit organizations in Northern Virginia, we serve more than 4,500 students and parents annually. We are proud to report that Edu-Futuro responded to the COVID crisis by expanding our Case Management Services to become one of the largest providers of service navigation and financial aid to immigrant families in the Washington region, stabilizing nearly 1,800 households, and disbursing over $2.6 million for rent, food, and other necessities.

No other community-based organization in Northern Virginia provides the comprehensive bilingual and culturally competent services offered by Edu-Futuro. The most tangible proof of our programs’ effectiveness is the success of our Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) for immigrant students. Despite the tremendous disruption caused by the COVID pandemic, the 224 outstanding high school seniors who graduated from ELP during the past four years were collectively offered more than $37 million in life-changing scholarships and financial aid for their four-year college education.

Edu-Futuro provides computer/smartphone training that helps parents obtain new and better-paying jobs, while our family workshops improve communications between parents and their children. We understand the unique needs of the families we serve because 90% of our staff is fully bilingual, and 95% are immigrants or the children of immigrants.
